For many years I wanted a pair of Birkenstock and finally decided to treat myself to a pair on a Friday afternoon. Having read reviews and the policy of the company which prides itself in "inventing the footbed" and "stands for excellent comfort, high functionality and extraordinary quality" "Our products promote wellbeing. They literally do good. So they stand out from the flood of cheap products that dominate large parts of our consumer world today." Feeling confident I bought the Arizona leather shoes. I couldn't choose the right size so was undecided in my choice. I got two contradictory opinions from the shop floor stuff, one was advising to go with my exact size and the other advised to go slightly larger to feel more comfortable.(NB the staff is obviously not knowledgeable about the product because both were contradicting each other about the same product) I received no further advice, paid my money and off I went. They didn't feel comfortable from the start but I worn them the next day nonetheless, which happened to be a really hot day. In a matter of an hour my feet were in bits, blistered and torn to blood on the sole(!!!) of my feet in 3 different places. I returned to the shop the next day to return the shoes because there is no way I can wear them again. It's pure torture for my feet. While, I have nothing against the quality of the shoes I certainly can't say that they provide that "barefoot" experience and promote wellbeing. Not in my case. I could hardly walk in trainers at this stage and will be affected for weeks until my feet heal properly. Anyways, I didn't expect to be met with such disrespect and shrugging of the shoulders at trying to return the shoes. The same lady that advised to go for a larger size, when I showed her my blistered and bloody feet, was there to tell me that basically I probably have "sensitive skin", shouldn't have worn them on a hot day (???) And shouldn't have buckled them up (?????) And pretty much that's it. She just insisted there's nothing she could do for me. I should let my feet heal and then try and "break them in with socks on" because all of their "American customers break their shoes for at least a month" (?????????) No apology or regret at least, NADA. The manager didn't even come down to speak to me. None of this "valuable advice" was given to me when I bought the shoes in the first place. Ok, soooo, presumably I'm a diabetic person and any blister on my feet is potentially fatal for me. I go into Birkenstock believing I'm uying the best shoes to make me feel safe but they fail to provide what they stand for??? With the ensuing consequences. They'd still shrug a shoulder and ask you to leave. This is not what you'd expect from a shop with tradition like Birkenstock. Bottom line, I certainly wouldn't recommend this shop because they don't know their produce, they don't provide accurate advice, they don't stand nor care for the company's policy, they won't take your shoes back if you are not satisfied. You are not covered as a customer , it's just business for them.
