  So here is my story - contacted local supplier Dominic Smith Electrical Expert Gorey to buy a dishwasher. Fed up with appliances breaking down after a couple of years so specifically asked for long warranty. Was told that Whirlpool had 2 year labour and 10 year parts (had to register with Whirlpool after getting machine to qualify for 10 year parts guarantee ). Paid €329.99. When machine was delivered I rang Whirlpool with the serial number to register. During the conversation I was told that the guarantee for parts was 10 years but there would be a call out charge of €125.00 if anything went wrong!!! That is like buying a car for €32,999 and being told that you have a 10 year parts Warrenty but there will be a callout/labour charge of €12,500 each time anything goes wrong!!!! Now that is fine if you are told all this in advance of any purchase so you can decide if you want to buy or not, but in my case not only was I not given that information but when I raised the issue with Dominic Smith Electrical and said that I would not have bought that machine, but offered to buy a more expensive machine with a three year additional parts and labour warranty they told me that they were not prepared to take the machine back (even though I have only had it for one day and the machine has not been used). So much for the customer comes first. Be warned - it is not what you are told - it's what your not told!! So - you might say - what is the big deal - it's only €329.99 but I believe it is time that we stand up to the sharp practice merchants no matter what price and start insisting that we are treated professionally and fairly.
