Took a day trip from Dublin with Mary Gibbons tours. We went to Newgrange and Hill of Tara. Hill of Tara was muddy the day we went so we couldn't get right up to the coronation stone, but the stop was wonderful. At the top of the hill you get a great 360 degree countryside view. Mary, the tour guide, knows her stuff and provides lots of historical background.

I don't know why I love it here but I do. When your standing on one of the mounds in the area it feels as though you can see the four corners of Ireland. The area oozes history and the fact that you can walk around it unhindered amazes me. It's a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon with the family with places for hide and seek and hills to run and roll down. The area is very open however so it can be cold and windy. Wrap up well.

It's an unadulterated historic site with a rich history. There is no cost to visit, which is nice. There are some informative displays about the history. Feel free to walk the grounds taking plenty of pictures, or find a quiet spot to meditate and reflect. I recommend arriving early, parking fills up quickly with people jogging or walking the hills.

I so love visiting Tara. There is a peace here, up on the hill beneath the faery tree, for me anyway. There are vast views oh are just divine, looking out upon them takes me on a journey through the ages. There's the coffee shop where one can grab something to warm you up after being on the hill, and afterward one can visit the gift shop, or the rustic book shop, or call in and visit Courtney in his studio/ gift shop/ meditation space. Parking available and one has no trouble spending a few hours here
