::Looking through my photographs of Cork I have noticed that there is a large number of derelict and badly maintained buildings and sites. It is interesting to note that on the 27th. August 2009 a building on Castle Street collapsed crushing a parked car. At the junction of Castle Street and North Main Street there is a derelict building beside Fast Al’s and on the wall of this building there is a ‘Historic Plaque’ dedicated to John George MacCarthy. John George MacCarthy MP (1829-1892) was a solicitor in Cork and was an early member of the Home Rule movement and MP from 1874 until 1880.
