  In the 1930s the Irish Free State was responsible for providing social housing, hospitals and schools and ‘Technical Schools’ were provided in many towns. The building at Wellington Place [near the Wellington monument] is typical of the utilitarian nature of much of the modern architecture in Ireland during the twentieth century.
