  An authentic pub experience with an atmosphere that is like stepping back in time. The perfect place to enjoy a pint. The food is excellent, too!

  McCarthys is a lovely welcoming warm pub across the road from the parish church. The staff are very nice, they couldn't do enough for you. And in true Tipperary custom, the warm hospitality is excellent, they kept bring us food of a high standard, which was true to the area, wholesome tasty local food. There is no frills, it's country food in a country pub. Price wise unbelievable great value, I don't think they are making a big profit. As I was pleasantly surprised with our bill. We then spend time in the bar, which has a horse racing theme, as McCarthys is in the heart of the horse breeding country side. The pub has a lot of quirky items, it's not a shiny polished bar, it's a place I would like as my local and frequent regularly. If your passing, drop in for food or a beverage, you won't be disappointed and enjoy a little piece of the old Ireland.

  Had a table in the bar booked but we were still left waiting for almost an hour. Told them we we're just going to leave so they quickly wedged two tables together in the back. Definitely not comfortable for 5 people. We were given excuses all night about why our table wasn't ready. We asked about other empty tables and were told they're booked. I don't see how it's fair to make sure other tables are kept but ours wasn't. We could see staff arguing and trying to sort it out. Clearly a lack of management. Jasper there, he was the first person we dealt with but left as soon as he got a chance. They rang to apologize a couple of days later and gave us an excuse that one of the girls rang in sick. I don't see how that effects bookings. The staff on the night were friendly and you could tell they had just been dumped into the situation and left to deal with other peoples poor planning and management. The food there is nice but there's not a lot of variation and so don't expect to see many changes if you go again and again. Staff are friendly and the service has improved in general but slip ups like this shouldn't happen. We have been offered a free À la carte meal but I won't be going there again. We got much better seats (without reservation), service and food in another restaurant.

  The food here is excellent, and the value for money is good. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The craic is great. The pub oozes history, and it feels like you are stepping back in time. I highly recommend McCarthy's when you are visiting Fethard. Oh, and if you are a burgeoning ghost buster, break out your tools; this pub has many accounts of haunting attributed to it. I may have seen a few things after a night out here; right, that was just due to the quantities of stout consumed. On a serious note though, McCarthy's is a lovely pub that exudes a warm cozy ambiance.
