::Was having a fantastic relaxed evening at a gig recently... This was until I was waiting on a friend to grab her jacket and an incredibly rude security guard approached me by poking my side. I was thrown off by this as anyone would be as I really don't enjoy people invading my personal space without my consent. I politely proceeded to tell this man that he needed to stop touching me, causing him to call over another guard who didn't hesitate chiming in by yelling in my face, "YOU NEED TO LEAVE MAM!", "YOU CAN'T WAIT HERE, WAIT DOWNSTAIRS." I told him there was no need to be so rude, I wasn't causing any trouble. I felt unsafe as the two of them stared at me as if they wanted to kill me, so I made a quick escape. Having been told I could wait downstairs for my friend I decided to move there. Yet another guard came up to me to tell me to leave the building, thankfully not as rude as the last two, but still rude nonetheless. I told him I could not, it was raining and freezing outside. My phone battery was gone and my friend had no idea where I was. Can you guess where I ended up having to wait? This is to the staff of The Academy, do your guards understand the severity of forcing young girls, or even any young person to wait alone in the middle of Abbey st. late at night? Do you care for anything but your own business? Now I ask google, why can't I give this establishment a zero star rating? I will not be returning, well done guys, you just lost two potential customers.

::One of the best music venues in Dublin. Really nice staff, a good bar, and a fantastic small arena for an intimate time with your favourite band. Cant recommend the place enough. I go here twice or three times a year. Downstairs there is a smaller stage for smaller groups. It is also very good.

::Nothing particularly wrong about this place but it attracts a very young crowd. Like, the average age is probably 20 there most of the time, if not less. A wee bit uncomfortable when you're a few years older... great bands often play here though, which is why I gave it four stars. So, if you're around 20, go here, it's a five star place. For me, tis four.

::Good venue, was at a gig here. Only lost a star as they closed the bar at like 10pm. They may have done so because a few younger lads were removed as they were pretty gone. But felt it could've stayed open a bit longer. Good DJ beforehand and a solid show. Security was on point. Good location

::Great venue for getting up close and personal during a gig. Always enjoy a good act here. Can be a bit tight at times. If you want a seat the mezzanine is the place to go. Sometimes you'll need a special pass so go for the seats to the right of the stage otherwise. They are nearer and less likely you've your view blocked. Only reason it loses stars are for the bar being extremely expensive and having a very poor selection. No craft beer and no Guinness even. Other star is lost as the sound system/management isn't really up to scratch. Some gigs are just terrible in sound quality/mixing.
