I'm happy that all the other reviewers have had such a good time at this school, but I had a terrible experience here. I went there for Grade 4 Piano. I will also be talking specifically about the teacher, Eoin Scanlon. I am saying his full name so that future pupils going to this school will not make the same mistake as I did when choosing my teacher. Where to start? This "teacher" does not deserve the title of Teacher, because he wasn't. He did not TEACH. I think he only "taught" to make some extra moola while he was working as a concert pianist. We missed many lessons because he did not seem to be able to balance his two careers. I was not able to get a refund on the lessons we missed. When he was not in, the person covering for him would always TEACH and would not have their phone in sight! While he was there, all he did was look at his phone and give me generic compliments that weren't even accurate, such as "perfect" when it was far from it and "good, really good" when it was atrocious. I knew how they really were because I have another teacher that is absolutely fantastic at what she does, and she would always keep her phone out of sight and give me real constructive criticism. I felt very disrespected when Eoin used his phone during lessons, because the focus should have been on me when I was paying good money to be TAUGHT! He can use his phone for free like everyone else! I noticed this especially in my most recent lesson with Eoin, where I brought in a pop piece to play because I had finished my exam and wanted a break from exam pieces. He looked at his phone almost the ENTIRE lesson and occasionally looked up to tell me “good, really good”. Just because I brought in a pop piece, which are sometimes considered easier than classical pieces, does not mean he had the right to sit there and look at Snapchat, or whatever it was that he was looking at. I am a paying student and my piano education is worth more than his phone. As a piano student, I expect my playing and my work to be treated as the sole focus of the class. Not to mention I’m paying good money to be there. He also did nothing to prepare me for my RIAM Grade 4 exam in November of this year. What he taught me was how NOT to be a piano teacher. Compare and contrast to my other teacher, who taught me. everything I needed to know in a few months and was basically the reason I got an Honours (with 82 marks) in my exam. Congratulations Eoin, you have officially won a free slot to use your phone WITHOUT hurting a student's piano education! From 3- 3.30 PM, you may use your phone all you like! Why? Because you will not see me set foot in your piano classroom unless it is to give you the middle finger and give you a link to this review. You've really outdone every teacher I've had in terms of being a horrendous one, and I'm not saying that lightly. Well done Eoin, you deserve it!
