Great museum, small but very interesting. The staff is also great and the new exhibition on the ground floor "What is she doing here?" is very good. The entrance fee might sound a bit pricey but it's worth it.

This little museum is well worth a visit if you are interested in the history of Dublin. It can be free (save 8 euro each) if you also have a hop on hop off bus ticket. Get a free admission coupon from the hop on hop off bus driver when you get off at stop 12 (right across from the museum). Plan about an hour and go on the guided tour included in the admission. Joan is a very cheery tour guide. You might be lucky enough to go on tour with her. There is also a quaint lunch cafe below the museum. They have great soups and also offer 10% off the food cost with a museum ticket. Cliff & Judy Stead.

One of the best sights in Dublin. Made up of a ton of donated items, represents Dublin as the locals see its history. Only a couple of rooms (and a rotating exhibit) but the hourly guided tour is fantastic and engaging. Our tour guide, local comedian Gary, was fantastic and even sang a little tune. Don't miss this museum if in town.

Most interesting and enjoyable museum we visited. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. The guided tour was fascinating and funny with lots of history and quirky facts. The guide connected with the group who were multinational and included children. She wasn't just going through a script but was able to answer questions too. If you like social history this is a must. The tour lasts about an hour but you can stay after to see the rest of the house.

I would suggest this to anyone who wants a quick crash course on understanding the last 100+ years of Dublin’s place in Irish history. A great place to start, and I wish I’d done this as the first (rather than one of the later) stops on my trip. With loads of artefacts packing the rooms of this Georgian townhouse, there’s plenty to explore or at least pique your interest. They rotate out the lower floor exhibit every 3 months, so I’ll be back to see the new one that goes in just before I leave. The staff were very friendly, and happy to share their knowledge — both historical and current — about the city. Plus, your tour ticket gets you 10% off at the cafe downstairs!
